Students in Shepton Mallet are looking to commission a range theatre companies, workshop leaders and performers over the next nine months.

Initially the programming panel are looking to programme three / four theatre companies (ideally south west based) to perform inspiring theatre productions across Shepton Mallet schools and in the town centre. 

Key Information

  • Performances will take place in Autumn 2019 (October and November)

  • Audiences will be aged 4-11 in school settings with some adults / siblings for familiy shows

  • Selected theatre companies will perform 2 shows in one day (in two different schools very close to each other) with playground interaction as families arrive / leave.

Please send no more than two sides of A4 with

  • An image from your show

  • A brief synopsis of the production

  • The age range suitability

  • Information on what elements of shadow puppetry / puppetry your work includes

  • Any audience capacity limitations etc

  • A link to any online additional information about the show

  • Info about tech requirements (please bear in mind these are limited as these will mainly be school productions)

  • If you are a south west based artist or have any connection to this area

  • Your company fee for one day (anticipated range £200-£700 depending on size etc)

Storyteller wanted to weave magic final

We are looking for a dynamic storyteller, author, or creative to work with us to help a range of students aged 4-11 from six different schools in Shepton Mallet to develop a new performance. You must be experienced in developing storylines and working with children. We are looking for someone to help students create the plot for the story which will then be crafted into a script / immersive performance in March 2020 led by Bowlish Infants School and Make the Sunshine Community Interest Company with a partnership of five other local primary schools.

AIMS OF THE ROLE

  • Provide a whole school assembly to include a demonstration of powerful storytelling in each setting

  • Explain the creative writing process illuminating how to create a character, set the scene, form a narrative arc and develop plot

  • Working with project partners to design creative writing activities for each age group in response to their section of the storyline – support will be available from teaching staff for delivery

  • Lead a range of workshops with smaller groups and visit classes working on the story and reviewing activities that have been initiated by class teachers

  • Work with Bowlish Infant School and Make the Sunshine CiC to support children in developing a range of storyline possibilities for an immersive performance in March 2020

RENUMERATION & TIMEFRAME

A fee of £540 for four days delivery. This fee is inclusive of travel and expenses. Schools can supply required materials for sessions and project staff will be available to support the delivery of workshops and assemblies.

Author Sessions: Four days in September 2019 to be agreed
