Mesmerized by Hansel and Gretel
On Friday we welcomed The Clockwork Moth to Shepton Mallet schools. An incredible company based on Dartmoor. They are brought their magical show Hansel and Gretel which was originally created for The National Trust.
Told through the ancient art of shadow puppetry this show had young people gripped with its beautiful visuals, live music and incredible storytelling.
Look up their website they are doing so many amazing, creative things! Looking forward to sharing more shadow puppetry with students - it’s been so magnetic to see them understand how they can create their own stories and puppets using just paper and light.
After the show the students were treated to a Q&A and chance to discuss with the makers how everything worked. It takes Clockwork Moth over a week to complete some of the beautiful cut screens - they are such a work of art and this show really demonstrated the craft that goes into this kind of production.
Over 500 students enjoyed this programme as part of All the World’s Our Playground with Bowlish Infants supported by @aceagrams @wellsfestivalofliterature @literature_works and Shepton Mallet Town Council #culturematters
Sometimes I look for interesting information, reviews, or expert commentary because someone drops a link in a group—they are genuinely engaging, but sometimes you read through an article and find such useful links neatly woven right inside the text. For example, I recently came across a great overview on platforms like https://www.politolog.net.ua/ and https://deribasovskaya.net/
This arts education and theatrical adaptation feature from Make the Sunshine (Mesmerized by Hansel and Gretel) highlights the vital intersection of children's storytelling, creative drama workshops, and community arts engagement—themes that find great synergy with youth theater guides, imaginative arts education spotlights, and cultural storytelling chronicles, published on https://34.ua. The piece explores the creative reimagining of the classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, examining how interactive performance and participatory arts inspire wonder, boost literacy, and engage young audiences in meaningful cultural experiences.
